Proposing a member: an important distinction between Rotary and other organizations is that memberships in Rotary is by invitation. Rotary clubs invite individuals to join and become members. Upland Rotary was founded on fellowship, an ideal that remains a major attraction of membership today. Club members enjoy the camaraderie with like-minded professionals, and club projects offer additional opportunities to develop enduring friendships, while serving the community! Rotary club members who travel have friendly contacts in almost every city in the world. Membership growth is vital to Upland Rotary Club's operations and community service activities. A primary goal of the club is to continually expand the club with committed members who have the interest and ability to get involved in service and humanitarian projects.

The membership process
Before inviting a candidate for membership, we ask that you submit their name for a preliminary review by the Membership Committee. This process helps avoid potential embarrassment later for both the Candidate and the proposing member.
Next a person being considered for membership is invited by the sponsor to attend one or more club meetings to learn more about Rotary. Your Candidate is introduced as "... A guest of the Club..." The Club covers the cost of the first meeting attended by the Candidate. Interested Candidates are interviewed in a follow-up interview by senior members of the Club; details of dues and other expenses, as well as attendance and service expectations are reviewed and explained. Proposed members are then circulated for comments among the full membership. Successful candidates are welcomed and inducted as the newest members our Club.

- hold - or be retired from - a professional, proprietary, executive, or managerial positions;
- have the capacity to meet the club's weekly attendance or community project participation requirements;
- live or work within the locality of the club or the surrounding area.
